What if social media was an actual place ?

Imagine if Instagram was not a click away, rather you had to go on a 15 minute bus ride to reach a massive public library named “Insta” spanning across almost 2 to 3 streets.(Though this is hypothetical it would be quite pragmatic to assume these social media platforms have decentralised physical locations.) It becomes the new “go to” for everyone in your locality. Not to mention that every locality has its own Insta. Each floor has 10 large rooms. Depending on the number of celebrities, influencers, athletes, content creators they are allotted the first 2 to 3 floors, while the other people of the same locality take up the remaining floors. Each book acting as an account, the residents of the locality are given topics ranging from cooking, gardening to politics and world history to create a portfolio for themselves. They will be able to post their take on the chosen topics comprising their portfolio. So to comment on a topic it has to be a part of their portfolio.

Facebook

Coming to Facebook, it would be the cafe cum club that is almost in every locality for the past 10 years. Everyone has visited this cafe and there is not a single club that has 0 members. People pour in to put up their status update in the notice board in their respective compartment. Those wanting to take a peep into these status updates can stroll by the wide exhibition hall(which is erected separately for this purpose).

Twitter

To even imagine Twitter taking up a position geographically gives me jitters. Known for the hate mongering that tends to outweigh its positives it would be better not to think of it assuming a physical location even hypothetically I guess XD.

YouTube

Though YouTube is not a social media , if it were to take up a tangible form in an area, it would be that of a mall with an inbuilt multiplex showing content ranging from small snippets to a feature film. One can freely watch what one wants to from the content displayed in the respective showrooms but has to pay for the feature film one proposes to watch.

Such a small world!

Coming back to reality , we can appreciate how these platforms have shrunk the world and made access more affordable. Today in this fast paced world we are able to equip ourselves better and reach the nook and corner of the world.
